sharing a personal story today

By October 15, 2015 19 Comments

Today I’m sharing a personal story. It’s a little tender. It’s important to me. It’s a story I wanted to share.

It’s about a friend I love dearly and an experience that taught me so much.

You can read the essay at HuffingtonPost/OWN, HERE.

Love,

Tara

Thank you for sending this story out. The message of faith is the one I really needed to hear today.

  • Dawn says:

So how does the story end? How is Rebecca’s baby?

  • The tears started rolling when you wrote that Rebecca and her husband prayed for all the babies in the NICU. These are very special people filled with light — what an inspiration to all of us.

Your story reminded me of a wise man I heard share at a 12-step meeting years and years ago. He said, “You’re okay. Right now in this moment, you’re okay. Think about it. No matter what has happened to you, haven’t you always been okay? After all, you’re here, aren’t you? If you’ve always been okay, if you’re okay not, then why won’t you be okay in the future? Of course you will.”

This wise man became one of my good friends. I was surprised to discover years and years later that David doesn’t believe in a Higher Power. But he still has faith and lives a life filled with light. I have watched him ride the waves of challenges in his life in a very grace-filled way.

Thank goodness for the Rebeccas and Davids of the world. They renew my sometimes wavering faith. Thank you for telling us this story, Tara. I hope and pray Rebecca’s baby will be okay, but I know she will be no matter what.

  • Thank you very much, Tara. This is beautiful written and lovingly shared. And it is important beyond all measure.

Beautiful TRUTH. Yes, we have our fears and Life gives us tragedy, what we do with the “good” and “bad” can be the same, breathe in and experience it all and know we are enough, that we are connected to TRUTH. Thank you for sharing your understanding and your dear friends knowing.

I needed this today. I am in a really dark place and was having a hard time holding on to my faith and to hope. This helped. Thank you.

Such a great story of faith in the face of adversity and the gift of choice in perspective. Thank you for writing that life is about what we want but believing that through the hills and valleys we can be strong and our faith can see us through. Thank you Rebecca for allowing us the privilege to witness the beauty of your story and for your dear friend to share it with us.

  • Yvonne McLean says:

Thank you for your honest and insightful piece Tara. Your story touches me deeply. It reminds me of the line from A Course In Miracles – in my vulnerability I become invulnerable… Also, from my own experiences of challenges and stepping into the unknown, just trusting and having faith are what took me through to the other side of whatever it was. Thank you for your beautiful reminder of that.

  • Beautiful, poignant, and inspiring. So happy that it’s part of OWN – right where it belongs. Thank you!

  • Genevieve VenJohnson says:

Thank you for this. The beauty and courage broke my heart open. Glorious.

  • Thank you for this poignant story, Tara. It made me think of these words by the English mystic Julian of Norwich, who lived from 1342 to 1416: “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.” Sending love to you and yours, and to Rebecca and hers.

  • This was so beautiful and so good on so many, many levels. Thank you for sharing.
