Earlier this week, I had the honor of being on The Today Show. I see being on that show as an amazing opportunity — the opportunity to reach 2 million viewers.

It was my second visit on Today, and — like last time — it was both super nervewracking and super fun. I suppose that’s true of all forms of playing big.

In the segment, I talk about the common ways women undermine themselves with their own words – we often do this without knowing it! You can watch the clip below.

AND, I’m proud and thrilled that the new session of my Playing Big program for women opens for registration today. This is my labor of love, my offering, and the best of what I know and what I teach. Visit here to learn more and get your spot.

Yay!! So happy to see you shining a light on this. I live for the day when all women are unabashedly, unapologetically self -expressed. That will be a whole new world for us all. Well done Tara!

    Ah – ‘just’ and ‘actually’…

    Thank you.

As always, what wonderful advice! And btw, you look awesome 🙂

  • Lydia says:

You go girl! haha, I’m one of those people who raises the pitch at the end of my sentences. for example: “I’ll have the ham sandwich?”

  • K-eM says:

I wonder. Have you ever heard of women being sidelined or “punished” for NOT saying “just” or “actually.”

I was raised in a family that never taught us to speak that way. The women in my family have always owned their power and married men who loved that.

When I first read your comments about this, I recognized it since I hear it from the women I work with all the time. But I also realized that the only time I do it is when I’m interacting with people who have reacted in adverse ways when I DON’T do it. In other words, side lining me because I don’t sideline myself.

I’m just wondering if I’m the only woman who has experienced this.

  • Jan says:

K-eM, I know what you mean, and after years of working with people, largely men, who were offended or threatened by my being straightforward even in the most gentle way, I decided it was better for me to seek work where people were not so easily offended. I found that the energy it took to constantly be couching everything I said was better spent doing something else in the world. I love Tara’s advice and I look forward to practicing it! Thank you, Tara!

  • perfect piece. congrats and so true… language is powerful.

  • Great job! I know how hard it is to do live TV and you impressed me to no end! Need to take lessons from you 🙂 (Also agree with what others said re: purple. Great color for you!)

Thank you Tara – hearing our words is essential to knowing more about who we are and realising how we see ourselves. I have popped it on our Blossom FB page for all the Mums and Daughters to read.
    Beautiful.

  • K-eM says:

Sadly, it’s not the men that reacted adversely. It has been women.
