How The One

Have you ever tasted a summer strawberry?
Look how The One loved you.

Have you seen light on meadow grass?
Look how The One loved you.

Did you one year have a teacher you adored
so much that warmth still rises
in your chest as you think of her?
Look how The One loved you.

Did the life force come back to you after days of illness?
Did your broken arm heal?
Did you forget what you were arguing about,
decide to just laugh, and move on?
Look how The One loved you.

Did you sleep and wake up replenished?
Did you dream of a landscape from another world?
Has your skin tingled from a kiss?
Look how The One loved you.

And did you survive the unthinkable?
(Yes, I know you did.)
Did you stay tender somewhere within you—
Did you find the strength—
Did you find a better way
than the way it was done to you?

Did you cry, and sigh, and finally say the truth
and the narrowness gave way to freedom?

Look! Look! Look how The One loves you.

Poems by Tara Mohr

“Tara Sophia Mohr's poetry accomplishes the most important mission in all forms of art: she reminds us that we are all one, and then speaks directly to each heart. Her whisper reminds us of our own luminous presence: 'Don't forget your true name: ... Strong cauldron for the feast of light.'”
