Axis

Each one hikes her life
around her axis of mystery.

You are here only because
the cells balanced in some dark place,
the cells found each other in some dark place.

You were some mind’s long journey
before you became the one
that takes the journey.

You were miracles in the making
before you became the one
whose palms bounce miracles

like children bounce jacks on the gray sidewalk.
