What Will You Do With the Playing Big Toolkit?

Women come to the Playing Big Facilitators Training so they can start doing more of the work they really care about–no more waiting for that next level of impact, joy or meaning in their work.

If your existing training hasn’t given you what you need to truly support contemporary women in their thriving (because it just wasn’t designed to do that)
If you are tired of waiting to step into the work and impact you long for – whether that’s focusing on women’s wellbeing, working with groups, or expanding your reach and visibility
If you have a vision and skills to support women, but not the comprehensive  framework that you’d like to coach from, or teach to others

…this program is for you. For more than a decade, the Playing Big Facilitators Training has given coaches, consultants, managers, educators and mentors the toolkit to powerfully support women in diverse ways.

Better tools. More impact. More confidence. More community, and more joy in the work.

If you’ve been inspired by the Playing Big book and know you want to bring it more deeply into your life and work, our courses are for you.

If you want to focus on your own Playing Big – launching the project, sharing your voice more, going for the stretch role – our signature Playing Big Course is for you.

If you want everything to support your own Playing Big and you’d also like to learn to make the Playing Big model a guiding part of your work with others – whether you coach, mentor, manage, teach or consult, then the Facilitators Training is for you.

Our graduates continue to report rave reviews and incredible, career-shifting results.

Many students use the tools to coach women and others more effectively – whether in life, executive, business, health or parenting or other types of coaching.

Others have a vision of work they’d love to do with groups – courses, professional development programs, retreats. They gain a renowned toolkit and model they can use with confidence and ease as they do that work.

Other participants work in non-coach roles, but want to make coaching team members and mentees a bigger part of their workday. This training equips them to do just that.
Other participants come for our global community – collaborators, thought partners, inspirations from countries all around the world, all sharing a passion for women’s empowerment, and women pursuing an inwardly-defined Playing Big.

The Playing Big Model has Garnered Attention In:

Designed for People
Who Help Other People Grow

Coaches
You are passionate about working with women and helping them thrive. And you want practical tools for helping clients work with self-doubt, fear, feedback, and issues of voice and visibility.

Leaders & Managers
You love the coaching or mentoring aspect of your days and want more of it. You have a passion for women’s advancement. You want to help the people you lead develop greater agency and confidence–without simply telling them what to do.

Educators & Mentors
You support people through important professional, creative, or personal transitions and want tools that help them quiet self doubt, find their voices, and access their own solutions.

Therapists & Helping Professionals
You’re intrigued by the blend of coaching and clinical approaches. You want additional practices for working with women around issues of voice, career, self-doubt, fear, and hiding. You’d love to deepen your work helping people access their own inner wisdom.

HR & Organizational Practitioners
You want a proven framework that can allow you to be more effective and more fulfilled in the coaching, talent development, and facilitation work you do. You may also be considering leaning into coaching in your next career chapter.

Consultants
You bring expertise to your clients, but often they can’t leverage your guidance fully because they get stuck due to inner blocks. You see how combining coaching and consultative approaches would help them and increase your impact.

The Playing Big Model

1

Inner Critic

You’ll learn how to help someone quiet their self-criticism or self-doubt — whether that self-doubt is subtle or glaringly clear. So often, our clients, students, colleagues or others we support are held back by the ways they talk to and think of themselves. You’ll learn how to help others differentiate the false self-criticisms from important self-awareness. And, you’ll learn how to truly help people quiet the self-critical voices that hold them back.

2

Inner Mentor

You’ll learn the inner mentor processes and practices for helping people connect to their source of inner wisdom. You’ll have a proven, renowned process for helping any person – or groups of people – tap into a clear vision for the future that’s pulling them. And you’ll have a toolkit for helping people tap into their inner mentor around any dilemma or difficulty – so that they can consistently find their own answers and solutions.

3

Navigating Fear

You’ll become more able to help those you support move through fear. When someone is contemplating sharing their voice, leading, innovating or simply creating their more authentic life, fear always arises. The Playing Big model distinguishes between the overreactive fear that can get in our way when we are taking important risks vs. the exhilaration that comes when we step into playing bigger. You’ll learn tools for working with each type of fear effectively.

4

Unhooking from Praise and Criticism

You’ll learn how to help people navigate feedback. When someone comes to you reeling because of tough feedback from a colleague, or a lackluster response to work they put out into the world, or a piece of harsh criticism from a family member – what can you do that really helps? The Unhooking from Praise and Criticism model allows us to help clients to see feedback simply as information about the person sharing the feedback, take what’s relevant, and move forward.

5

Core Nutrients

You’ll learn tools to help people design a fulfilling life path, even during these times.  In the Playing Big model, we hold that each person has a unique set of “core nutrients” — the qualities that they most need to thrive. Often, we can make significant positive change in our lives simply by taking small, everyday actions to get more of our core nutrients. You’ll learn how to help people discover theirs and  design their days to ensure they are getting them.

6

Leaping

The people you support often want to bring something new forward – a new business, or community project, a book, a class, or an artistic creation. But when it doesn’t go as well as they hoped, it’s easy for them to get stuck. You’ll learn how to guide people in a process of low-risk experimentation with whatever they are creating – so they can learn what works, avoid wasted time and effort, and walk a supported path to innovating in ways that work.

7

Communicating & Negotiating with Power

Whether someone comes to you with “I need to negotiate a new rate with my client” or “I need to negotiate the holiday plans with my siblings” – you’ll have a powerful framework and process to guide them with. You’ll learn both how to work with people to prepare for a negotiation, and how to guide them so they can have more effective problem solving conversations with others.

8

Hiding

Getting one more degree. Putting off an important career step because it seems like other steps need to happen first. Highlighting others’ voices but never sharing your own. These are just a few of the hiding strategies brilliant women often fall into. You’ll be able to recognize hiding behaviors in the people you support and coach people to move past hiding into brave – sometimes uncomfortable! – action.

9

Let it Be Easy

All of us have sat with clients, team members, mentees, or loved ones who are disappointed that they’ve lost motivation toward their goal, or gotten stuck in procrastination or self-sabotage. In this module, you will learn how to help clients shift from relying on self-discipline to instead making wise, self-caring action plans that lead to consistent long-term action.

10

Callings

One of the most powerful ways we can play big is to listen to and honor our callings to particular work, projects, or endeavors. There are recognizable ways our callings show up, common objections we develop out of fear, and tools for moving past resistance to our callings. You’ll gain the skills to help others discern, respect, and pursue their callings – so they can experience the fulfillment and impact that that brings.

“This is one of the best trainings that I have participated in. The structure of the programme – learning, observing and practising – works very well. It’s fantastic that we have direct access to working with Tara. Her work is important as many of us work to develop female leadership across the globe.”

Yvonne McLean

Leadership Coach and Leadership Development Consultant

I am impressed that Tara is personally present at every call and creates space for questions and on-the-spot coaching. Her personal attention and presence makes this course the incredible value that it is. I am now able to coach my clients and the young leaders I oversee through their fear; assist them to trust their inner wise women; and more. None of these would have happened if I hadn’t taken the leap and signed up for this training.

Nukhet Hendricks

Nonprofit Executive Director & Coach

I have taken the Facilitators Training and have evolved as a coach from having hardly any clients, to doing lots of 1:1 coaching, to developing a group program and online course for female academics. Tara Mohr has been a role model in this transformation and I have found her tools incredibly helpful for my own ‘playing big’ – as well as coaching others. I highly recommend this program.

Managers & Mentors

“I use Playing Big tools every week with individuals, groups, and leaders. The Inner Critic and the Inner Mentor have become foundational in my work because they give women language for an experience so many have carried in silence. Once they recognize those voices, they begin making decisions from a place of wisdom instead of fear. For the Black women leaders I accompany, these practices are meaningful in particular ways. Many have spent years navigating systems that asked them to become smaller, quieter, or more acceptable. The Playing Big tools help them reconnect with their own authority and lead from authenticity instead of self-protection.”

Brenda Bertrand
Ordained Minister, Spiritual Director & Retreat Leader

“Tara Mohr’s book, videos and online program have been foundational building blocks in my coaching and leadership development work. Her insights and her invitation to support all women in playing as big as they truly are is an inspiration in the work that I do. She has the gift of making the complex approachable and bringing spirit into the world of development and of business. I am a huge fan!”

Dorian Baroni
Founder, Women Agents Of Change

“Tara’s course has been amazing for me personally as well as professionally. Her tools are powerful in helping us as women see what we need to shift in ourselves in order to be the force we want to be in the world. When those shifts happen internally, they are noticed by others externally and it’s a ripple effect, changing the way women are in the world. It’s what we need right now in the world!”

Anya Taylor
Body and Soul Coach

“After 10 years of not making art, I started making art while working full-time in Silicon Valley. Fast-forward a few years: in 2017, I wrote a book about my journey, and in 2018, I completed my first solo exhibition at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery. How? Coaching and applying the Playing Big tools each step of the way. These tools have inspired me and helped me come into my own voice as a leader. In gratitude, I share these tools with others as a coach and a mentor.”

Bernadette Cay
Artist, Writer, and Leadership Coach

“Thank you Tara and team for a fantastic course. It has been a great combination of personal development and learning tools to help others. I particularly enjoyed the practical and supportive environment that was created. I would highly recommend it to others looking to enhance their skills in working with women – a very good investment of time and money.”

Lisa Florit
Leadership Coach and Facilitator

“The women in my Beyond the Empty Nest groups love the principles of Playing Big that I have incorporated into the programming. The new perspectives that they gain about their inner critics, their relationships with praise and criticism, and finding their true callings has helped empower them to leap into this next phase of their lives with confidence and excitement. The women who I coach are now Playing Bigger and so am I. I would recommend this training to any coach or therapist who is looking to make a bigger impact.”

Barbara Wasserman, LICSW, ACC
Midlife Transition Coach

“Taking this course was the best decision I’ve made. My coaching feels richer and my clients are experiencing the joys of stretching and exercising their ability to deal with the blocks that surface. They feel empowered and I am loving being a witness of their growth (and mine!).”

Barbara Churchill
Leadership Coach, Trainer, Speaker

“I sought out the Playing Big training for my own professional development and quickly realized that the tools would benefit my clients, too. The Playing Big tools and ideas have become an important resource that I use to help unsure leaders activate their visions and implement bold new projects and initiatives.”

Rochelle Williams
Founder and Principal Consultant, Gather

“This program has given me the community I’ve been longing for. Tara has attracted an amazing group of women who embody the perfect blend of wit and warmth, intellect and insight, courage and compassion. I looked forward to each week’s materials, and even though I couldn’t be on many calls live, I listened to the recordings dutifully and felt deeply engaged all along. These skills have shifted how I approach my own life – in terms of how I relate to my fears, doubts, and goals – and my work with women. I am excited to be part of a group of women doing the courageous thing and playing big from the inside out.”

Dr. Jessica Michaelson
Life and Career Coach for Moms

“The Playing Big Facilitators Training has enabled me to scale up my work with female business owners and creatives. It’s given me practical tools to enable the women I work with to see past their fears and habits. Women often come to me feeling stuck or overwhelmed, and I now feel better able to support them in moving forward and empowering them to create the businesses they really want.”

Jenny Hyde
Business Coach and Mentor

“My practice is on a roll. The skills and ideas I have learned in Tara’s program have blended so well with my other training. I am now confident that I have a strong, complete set of tools that I KNOW will be helpful for my clients. That confidence helps me market and price my services in a way that (finally) feels like it honors and reflects my value.”

Laura Grisolano
President, Bridge Mediation and Leadership Solutions LLC
Organizational conflict consulting, mediation, and leadership development services

“After reading the Playing Big book and experiencing the power of the tools by myself, I decided to enroll in the Facilitators Training. The process was completely transformational! Playing Big has helped me to name a lot of things that I was feeling and experiencing during the process of connecting with my calling. At the same time, it has inspired me to take leaps and connect with the audience that I want to impact and serve, from a spirit of curiosity and authenticity. One of my favorite leaps was facilitating a workshop with my sister (a Playing Big alumna as well) for 20 brilliant women in Perú, noticing how the tools resonate with women, no matter the culture or age.

Thanks for so much inspiration, Tara. I feel supported by you, and all the amazing women in the Playing Big Community.”

Lorena Carrasco
Co-Founder & Managing Partner at Ñustas

“As a Playing Big alumni, joining this training was a no brainer. It surpassed my expectations in every way. It’s a beautifully designed course with sensitive, experiential learning at its core. It drives so much depth into Tara’s incredible tools. When I weave Playing Big tools and techniques into my groups, and when mentoring clients and students, magic always happens. It’s awe inspiring to watch women have those ‘Aha’ moments. To witness them step truly into themselves with ease and from a place of joy, celebrate in their gifts and align with their BIG-ness. Powerful and incredible! Tara, your generosity in sharing your work and expertise are inspirational. I feel privileged to have been a part and to have grown with other exceptional women. I am so excited to be taking the work I do to another level.”

Ruth Polden
Yoga Mentor and Facilitator

“Everything about the program helped. I feel eager and excited to now have the tools to ask powerful questions to my students. Work now has a sense of purpose. It feels exciting, fulfilling, and with the perspective of seeing my work as a laboratory, it has become a place to explore, test, and have fun.”

Hoda Samiee Flores
Yoga Teacher

“Tara Mohr’s Playing Big has changed my life. I started the course amidst a terrifying professional transition. I was welcomed and supported by Tara’s dynamic community of women from all over the world who not only affirmed that there is room for my gifts in the world, but also encouraged me to leap into my brilliance with courage and conviction. Since starting the program my salary has more than doubled, I have started my own LLC, and strategized next steps for my personal and professional success, all while learning to live with, and not be paralyzed by, my inner critic. Playing Big, both the course and the book, is filled with engaging content and effective exercises that mine women’s innermost aspirations and dreams. As a professor and public religious leader, I cannot say enough about the difference Playing Big has made in my life. Playing small is no longer an option!”

Reverend Dr. Eboni Marshall Turman
Associate Professor of Theology and African American Religion, Yale University Divinity School

“This course helped me to dig deep and learn to listen to my calling and help me make some key decisions about my career path. I feel confident that I am making decisions that are right for me using the tools I learned in the course. What a great experience. Thank you!!!”

Theresa E. Bartolotta, Ph.D.
Dean, School of Health Sciences at Stockton University

“I am so much more able to recognize the inner critic and gently shut her down when she pipes up. I no longer feel mad at myself for having an inner critic (my inner critic was so strong that she would criticize me for listening to her!). Thank you so much for helping me manage my habit of being unnecessarily hard on myself, which has been going on for most of my life!”

Naomi Bardach
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Health Policy, UCSF School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics and Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies

“Playing Big offers great benefit for academics, helping us better tap into our creativity, vision, and power. I am a faculty member at a women’s college; the mission of my work is to support women playing bigger. As a psychology researcher, I value empirically-supported strategies. As a health scholar, I aim to improve community well-being. As a mentor, I know that the most sustainable approach to developing leadership capacity is to acknowledge people in their messy, glorious complexity – including mind, body, heart. I only wish I knew about the Playing Big program earlier, as it profoundly supports each of these values. Tara delivers substantive, practical content – manageable even for those people with busy, full lives – that will stay with you long after the formal program is over.”

Benita Jackson, PhD MPH
Associate Professor, Department of Psychology
Smith College

“Less than a year ago, I found myself seeking something more. While I had achieved most of my professional and personal goals, I knew there was more for me to learn, experience, and contribute to the world.

When I learned of the Playing Big course, I knew it was something I had to do for myself and for the women I wanted to serve. It was beyond excellent, and as an educator myself, I can attest to the quality of the materials and time spent working directly with Tara. She’s an authentic, compassionate, brilliant teacher.

More recently, I have started bringing the Playing Big model into my professional sphere. I hosted more than 50 women faculty and staff for an all-day retreat incorporating Playing Big concepts and tools. The response was so positive that I was invited to teach an online women’s leadership class. Of course, Playing Big is one of the required texts.

I’ve also used Tara’s work with my staff, all of whom are women. I have found her tools work with women at all levels of our organization. All of this, every single thing, I attribute to reading Playing Big and taking the Playing Big course.

Alexis Kanda-Olmstead
Director, Talent Management, Training & Support
Colorado State University

“I’ve experienced significant changes because of this program. I am able to put my learning, qualifications, and skills to best use because I communicate more clearly. I find that others are more clear about my role and contributions, which means they know when to come to me for input and when the request should go elsewhere. My profile is also growing in the industry, which is positive for the organization I work for. I manage my time better because I understand my role and worth, so delegate tasks more easily when appropriate. I also communicate more confidently with senior managers and with the people who report to me. I am generally more professional, happier, and putting energy into areas that align with the organization’s mission, as well as my own values.”

Joelle Adams
Adjunct Professor

“I’m EXTREMELY satisfied with what I got from this course! It is a collection of absolutely essential and brilliant tools that will be useful throughout my professional and personal life. THANK YOU for all the brilliance, work, thoughtfulness, knowledge, experience, connections, and (very importantly!) the love and passion that you put into this course!”

Beth Molnar
Associate Professor, Northeastern University
President, Board of Directors, Boston Area Rape Crisis Center

“The tools in the Playing Big material and the Facilitators Training have shifted so much about how I think about my own inner voices and how I structure my own goals and actions. I think the wisdom of this material is immense and immediately applicable to all women. I have already recommended the Playing Big book and the training to at least a dozen women, and I will continue to endorse this program moving forward. Tara and her team are doing yeoman’s work in this world, and I thank them for it!”

Dr. Liz Norell
Assistant Professor of Political Science

“Tara’s classes have completely changed the way I think about leading and mentoring inside and outside of the workplace. I have a box of Playing Big books under my desk to give away to whoever asks for one, because I find Tara’s approach so effective and wise. It has changed my life, and it might change theirs.

Taking the Playing Big class gave me a critical set of tools to work through feelings and behaviors that held me back. The Facilitators Training taught me how to use these tools to mentor and coach women around me that want to play bigger. Tara’s approach gave me a strong conceptual framework and words to describe and deal with our inner critics, our fears, our discomfort with feedback and criticism, and our resistance to act on the very things that we care about the most.”

Antonella Pavese
Senior Staff UX Researcher at Google

“This is an amazing course! It helped me figure out what my ‘playing bigger’ looks like and how it could be different as life evolves. The course is a nice balance of practical tools, self-reflection and guidance from Tara and resonant stories from others. I thought it was fabulous I could do this with my own time and without judgment. I would highly recommend this (and have been) to other women who desire to make a bigger difference in their lives in an authentic way.”

Zeryn Sarpangal
Vice President of Human Resources & Corporate Affairs, Achaogen, Inc.

“Professional development and mentoring conversations around subjects such as fear, doubt and self-criticism can often be awkward in the office setting. Playing Big gave me the deep insights and courage to approach these subjects with my team and mentees in more a thoughtful, empathetic manner. In finally addressing these once ‘taboo’ subjects head on, my teams and mentees accelerated their personal growth and effectiveness across the organization.”

Jennifer Dimaris
Former VP of Marketing, Starbucks Coffee Company

“Tara’s Playing Big model has made a significant difference in my own career, and through me in the careers of women I have mentored. In working through the exercises myself, I learned to make friends with my inner critic and to recognize when I was limiting myself through self-talk, communication style and other habitual patterns. This greater compassionate self-awareness has not only allowed me to grow, it has also helped me to be a better mentor to women I manage. It has been so satisfying to see them grow and thrive.”

Eleanor Bell, PhD
Director, Operations and Finance, HVTN, Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center
Former Director of Strategy Planning & Management, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

“Reading Playing Big was such a transformational experience that I didn’t think there was more for me to experience personally. But taking the Facilitators Training was as helpful to me in my personal growth as it has been in giving me tools to share Tara’s work with others. It was so wonderful to immediately apply what I was learning into my job, my mentoring relationships, and my facilitation work with women.”

Rebecca Magee
Manger of Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Eileen Fisher

“Playing Big gives you practical tools to get out of your own way and live a life that is more authentic, confident, and joyful. The Facilitators Training enables coaches, mentors, teachers, parents, and others to help other women (and men) on their journey to ‘playing big,’ however they define it. The course also connects you to amazing women around the world. I loved the course and would highly recommend it!”

Rachel Lipton
Evaluation and Strategy Consultant for the For-Impact Sector

“I enrolled in the Playing Big program a year into my first management job. I was inspired and regularly brought the topics back to team meetings and check-ins for discussion, opening up space for conversations on the things that were personally holding us back. Once we brought them out in the open, we were able to more effectively move forward together toward bigger goals and opportunities. The Playing Big model helped me develop my style and philosophy for management, making me a much better manager early on and more prepared as I transitioned into new organizations and teams.”

Sara Ferree
Senior Development Adviser, International Women’s Health Coalition

“The Playing Big model provided a framework for me to enhance my own leadership as a school administrator. Last year, when pitching several ideas to my school administration, I drew upon the Playing Big course and materials for guidance and encouragement. The Playing Big model has also been an integral part of our school’s leadership training for adolescent girls. The students resonate and can identify with Tara’s work, whether we are discussing inner critic, inner mentor or diminishing language.”

Who is Facilitators Training for?

The Facilitators Training is designed for people whose work includes supporting others’ growth: coaches, therapists, managers, educators, academics, mentors, health care practitioners, and leadership development professionals.

What participants share isn’t a job title — it’s a sense of being called to help women and others step into their full potential, and wanting a proven, practical toolkit for doing it well.

Do I need to be a coach?

Not at all. Many coaches take the Facilitators Training, but we also have participants working in academia, corporate managers, mentors, health care practitioners, and others.

If you don’t have a coaching or counseling background, you can access the Coaching Skills 101 that’s part of the Facilitators Training, a supplemental workshop that’s included with your registration at no extra cost.

Do I need prior facilitation experience?

No prior facilitation experience is required! For some with facilitation experience, this training gives them many specific new practices, tools, exercises and frameworks to use with clients – so they can interweave the Playing Big model with their existing toolkit.

For others, this training is the way they first begin to do facilitation or coaching work, and our Coaching Skills 101 is a great foundation for that.

Is this appropriate for therapists, educators, managers, or mentors?

Yes. The Playing Big model offers a set of tools and concepts you can integrate into your own approach to managing, mentoring, advising, consulting, or coaching.

Difference

What's the difference between Facilitators Training and the Playing Big Course?

In the Playing Big Course, you focus on your own playing big — your goals and your journey — applying the tools in your own life and career.

In the Facilitators Training, you learn to bring the Playing Big coaching and facilitation model into your work supporting others. If you’d like to coach, manage, mentor, consult or lead groups or workshops with integration of the Playing Big tools, the Facilitators Training is for you.

In the Facilitators Training, you get the full Playing Big Course as well as the Facilitators Training layer. That means you continue your own playing big while also learning to bring this work to the people you support.

Both programs include:

  • Dynamic live sessions with Tara, which you can attend live or watch and listen to afterward
  • Coaching demos that bring the concepts to life
  • Q&A, so your individual questions get answered
  • Readings, audios and videos, journaling worksheets, text-based reminders, and more
  • Virtual meet-ups and course discussion groups for connection and inspiration

The Facilitators Training adds:

  • Workshops focused on bringing the Playing Big model to others — which coaching tools and approaches work best for each topic, which pitfalls commonly arise, and how to navigate around them
  • Regular lab calls where you can practice the coaching skills in pairs, in a supportive learning environment, with debrief and discussion
  • A collection of handouts, worksheets, and resources that can be shared, used with clients, mentees, and workshop or group participants
  • Tara’s Coaching Skills 101 Training — three workshops on her unique approach to the craft of coaching
  • The opportunity to earn 40 ICF Continuing Coach Education units and to add completion of the Facilitators Training to your professional credentials

If you love coaching or want to coach one day; if you lead groups for women or hope to; if you mentor or manage people as part of your job; or if you simply want your work to be more about the meaningful, human development side of what you do — the Facilitators Training gives you a proven toolkit for all of it.

Should I take the Playing Big Course first?

You don’t need to. The Facilitators Training includes the full Playing Big Course, so you’ll experience the complete playing big journey for yourself as part of the training — you aren’t skipping anything by starting here.

That said, some people do begin with the Playing Big Course and move into the Facilitators Training in a later year. If you go that route, your Playing Big tuition can always be applied toward the cost of a future session of the Facilitators Training.

What if I've already taken the Playing Big Course?

Wonderful — you’ve got a great foundation of applying the tools in your own life, and now you can add this next layer – making the Playing Big model an integrated part of how you work with others.

The Facilitators Training runs on a two-week rhythm for each module. Week one focuses on applying the tool or concept to your own life, joining with the broader Playing Big Course community.

Week two is just our Facilitators community, focused on how to bring that tool to the people you support — clients, mentees, students, or team members — plus lab calls where you practice using it. That second week, along with Coaching Skills 101, the facilitator handouts and worksheets, and the ICF CCE pathway, is entirely additional to what you experienced in the Playing Big Course.

Many participants also find that revisiting the core material with fresh eyes — this time asking “how would I guide someone else through this?” — deepens their own understanding considerably.

And because the tools land differently at different life stages, returning to the inner critic, inner mentor, and callings work at a new point in your journey tends to open up new ground.

Professional Development

What professional development does the training provide?

Great question. The Facilitators Training provides:

  • A proven, widely applicable toolkit — a full set of coaching tools, frameworks, handouts, and worksheets you can use in 1:1 work, group programs, and workshops
  • A credential you highlight — on completing the course requirements, you’re encouraged to state that you’ve Completed the Playing Big Facilitators Training with Tara Mohr, add us to our bio, resume or LinkedIn.
  • Practice with feedback — regular lab calls where you use the tools in pairs and debrief together
  • An ongoing professional community — a global network of practitioners you remain part of long after the program ends
  • Coaching Skills 101 — three workshops on Tara’s approach to the craft of coaching, included with registration
  • 40 ICF Continuing Coach Education (CCE) units — 21 in Core Competencies and 19 in Resource Development

Are ICF CCEs available?

Yes. This training is accredited by the International Coaching Federation for 40 Continuing Coach Education units — 21 in Core Competencies and 19 in Resource Development.

To receive certification for those units at the close of the program, you’ll:

  1. Confirm that you attended live, or watched the recording of, all Guided Workshops, and completed the worksheets used on those calls.
  2. Confirm that you completed all Lab Calls. We strongly encourage attending the live lab calls; if you can’t, you can arrange your own practice time with another participant. If neither is possible, you may use the Lab Call Agenda to practice with a current client or someone in your life who’d like coaching.
  3. Successfully complete the final written assessment demonstrating your learning.

How can I use the Playing Big tools in my existing work?

The Playing Big can be layered into what you already do. It’s a set of tools and concepts you can integrate into your own approach to managing, mentoring, advising, or coaching.

A therapist can apply the Playing Big facilitation tools through their own theoretical orientation, helping clients strengthen coping skills, self-esteem, and resilience. A manager can use the toolkit alongside their existing one, especially when supporting team members around confidence, voice, and leadership development. Educators, consultants, and mentors weave the tools into mentorship or consultative conversations they’re already having.

Does this training certify me as a “Playing Big Facilitator” or “Playing Big Coach”?

To give you maximum flexibility in how you use the tools, we’ve chosen not to make this a certification or licensing program.

It’s a training program that equips you to use the Playing Big tools in your work for real impact with the people you coach, mentor, and teach. You can coach people using the 1:1 tools and use what you’ve learned in workshops or programs you lead.

If you’d like to state in your credentials that you’ve completed the Playing Big Facilitators Training with Tara Mohr, you’ll simply:

  1. Confirm that you’ve completed the curriculum for all modules
  2. Successfully complete the final written assessment demonstrating your learning

Then you’re free — and encouraged — to share that you’ve taken this training.

Our graduates don’t teach Playing Big branded programs. The intention is that you integrate the tools into the work you individually most want to do, in your own unique way.

Separately, the training is accredited by the International Coaching Federation. On completion, coaches receive certification for 40 CCE units — 21 in Core Competencies and 19 in Resource Development.

My employer sometimes sponsors professional development. Do you have something I can give them?

Yes, we have a document you can provide your employer. Click here to download the Playing Big for Professional Development Program Guide.

The Logistics

What are the dates and call times for this program?

The next session of the Playing Big Facilitators Training will run from the week of October 12, 2026 through April 9, 2027. Our workshop sessions will be every Wednesday starting at 10 am Pacific.

  • Week 1 of each module: we’ll have our 90-minute Guided Workshop on how to apply the Playing Big tools in your own life.
  • Week 2 of each module: we’ll have a 2-hour Facilitators workshop session.
Some participants attend the workshops live, some listen to or watch the recordings, and many do a combination.

What is the pacing for the program? What is the structure of each module?

We spend two weeks on each module, focusing on a Playing Big tool or concept.

In Week 1, we focus on applying the Playing Big tool/concept to your own life.

In Week 2, we apply the Playing Big tool/concept to work with others – clients, mentees, students, or team members you want to support. You’ll also have the opportunity to practice using the coaching tools through our lab calls.

How long is the training?

The Facilitators Training is an in-depth journey of roughly six months. We spend two weeks on each module, focusing on one Playing Big tool or concept at a time, so you have time to learn in the midst of a busy life, and truly integrate what you are learning.

How much time does it require?

For most participants moving through module by module, it’s about two and a half to three hours a week. That covers the weekly calls, reading, worksheets, supplementary materials, and time in the online discussion forums if you’d like to take part.

We also make it easy to skip a week or two when you need to. You can rejoin with the current module and make up whatever you missed whenever it suits you.

What if I can’t attend the live sessions?

All of our sessions will be recorded and posted within 24 hours, available as video and audio recordings. We also provide full written transcripts. If you’re not able to attend our lab calls, you can always connect with another participant in our discussion forum and practice together at your convenience. We provide lab call materials that you can use together at any time.

I’m outside of North America. How does the course work for those of us living in other parts of the world, and in very different time zones?

So glad you asked! The first thing for you to know is, yes, we have people from all over the world participating in this online program. On average, 40% of our participants live outside the U.S., and span over twenty countries.

Many have questions about making the timing of the program work. First, if the live call times don’t work for you, that’s no problem! You can access the recordings anytime.

If you can’t attend our live lab calls or want additional practice time, you can connect with other participants in our discussion forum who are looking to practice with others.

Over the years, our participants have shared again and again in their feedback that whether they participate live or via recordings (or some combination of both), the course is absolutely transformative in moving them into their playing big and supporting their work with others.

What’s the investment?

The cost of the program is $2699 USD when paid in full, or you can choose the 8-month payment option for $374 USD/month.

We also have a 12-month payment option (for $230 USD/month) if that’s a better fit for your budget. If you are interested in this payment option when registration opens, please contact our team for details (playingbig@taramohr.com).

What is your refund policy?

If within the first 30 days of the program, you find the program isn’t working for you, and you have submitted your completed program materials and worksheets from the course to date, you may request a cancellation of your membership and receive a refund.

What materials and community access are included?

Materials. Throughout the training, we give you multiple ways to download and save everything. At the close of the program, you receive a link to all course materials in one easy-to-access location that is yours forever, plus access to the course site itself for an additional six months. As a graduate, you’re also invited to participate in future sessions at no additional cost.

You’ll also receive three bonus modules after the course concludes:

  • Getting Your Message Out — media attention for your work, developing your public speaking, pitching to conferences, and more
  • Girls Playing Big — applying the model with girls K–12 and in undergraduate life, featuring experts, teachers, and leaders in girls’ empowerment
  • Playing Big While Caregiving — tools and practices for integrating playing big with caregiving responsibilities

Community. Providing space for connection and meaningful dialogue is one of our greatest joys as a team. We’ve found some participants want connection as a core part of their experience while others are more focused on absorbing the content — so we’ve structured things so both paths work. Engagement with the community is optional throughout.

You’ll have ongoing membership in our private Facilitators Training discussion group — hosted outside mainstream social media — where you can connect with other participants, ask questions between sessions, and find people in your local area or with shared interests. You can remain part of the forum as long as you’d like. There are also virtual meet-ups, and if you join the live practice sessions you’ll be working directly with other participants in pairs and small groups.

How long do I have access to the course materials?

The course website will remain open indefinitely and materials are all downloadable, so you can continue to use them whenever you need them.
